All Day Boot Camp, take 2

Well faithful readers, you will recall that I was pretty stoked about signing up for All Day Boot Camp, but then one-thing-after-another that was done poorly/wrong made me stop and demand a refund. After a couple of e-mails with the owner, who is now much nicer, she has convinced me to give them a 2nd chance (for free). So tonight I'll see how it's improved.

I really, really liked Love Your Body Fitness bootcamp, but they are on a little hiatus until June.

I was going to try West U Fitness boot camp, but it doesn't start until 6:30pm and the location has me doubling back past work after I go home for an hour and a half. So I didn't even try it out since I knew I wouldn't want to go at that time.

Still not getting that running bug.

It's hot out there!

C'mon y'all -- send some postive running mojo my way!

I hope you're 2nd try at this boot camp goes much better. June is not that far away for the camp that you really like.

Don't worry about the running bug. :)

Have fun at boot camp. I hope it's better the second time around.

The big will come back when it's ready.

Hey Strider-bud! We'd like to feature you in the Meet the Member article for our club newsletter, Stridelines.

You might remember the guy who got up during the meeting and asked for volunteers...that was my brother...and I'm helping him find fresh meat = )

It's a great way to introduce yourself to the club and allow us to get to know you better!

If you're willing, email me at aspenpony86 at yahoo dot com.

Thanks!

Ive looked at these boot camps as an addition to my running program; specifically that all day one you refer to...and quite frankly for $250 thats just ridiculous.

KW lasts twice as long and is $100 cheaper and if you work hard enough it will boot kick your ass.

However if you dont want to run, then KW is not for you...

good luck!

June -- does KW do any upper body work?

Y'all scare me in general (WAY faster than me) and I know y'all do a lot of hill work, which is a killer on my osteo-arthritis and osgood-schaltter plagued knees.

June speaks the truth, that is a boatload of money. If it's worth it to you by all means go right ahead. However, you might consider as alternatives buying videos or joining a health club if you aren't already a member. They all have an immense variety of exercise options and lots of individual and structured group consultation and training. Most have free trials, too, so you can check them out without obligation.

Steve I have to pay someone a lot of money or I won't do it!
I'll pay you if you'll come over and make me do curls and other upper body exercieses along with a lot of core exercises! But you have to make it somewhat fun, not yell at me, and stick to a schedule.

I have a dusty elliptical machine, some weights and videos/dvd at home along with a dusty Bally's card....

I do get a $50 discount for being in Bayou City Outdoors, so $200 for a month 3x a week is $16.67 per session. Cheaper than pilates!

Motivation, that's a tricky one! Some fundamental design concepts around Power In Motion were to focus on lifestyle changes, not a been-there-done-that 5k course, to make it cheap so that anybody could do it but to charge enough that you had some skin in the game, to make running fun (I know, oxymoron). I would guess we were able to introduce big lifestyle changes to 5-10% (those who actively joined the running community) of our participants and small/moderate lifestyle changes to at least 25% (those who came back for multiple sessions). To put it another way, we had a huge failure rate because we're encouraging people to introduce a level of discomfort into their lives in exchange for some somewhat nebulous benefits (more nebulous than, say, hard cash). Difficult indeed to go for a run when the alternative is one's comfy couch!

Not sure I've helped much here. I do view it that rejoining the Striders will be very positive for you as you'll meet folks with common goals and challenges.

As a short term action item, allow me to challenge you to go sign up for the Race for the Pennant 5k right now while you're thinking of it. It's the Striders Race of the Quarter for 2Q, so you'll get $15 back off your entry fee. Maybe having a short term goal will be motivating to get out there for a couple of runs beforehand :-)

I know the people who do the Love Your Body Fitness boot camps and they are about to start a new session Monday (Sept. 14). In addition to Memorial Park, I think they are also doing indoor classes at St. Martin's. I know they have offered package deals in the past. The women I know who do this boot camp love it. They are really into "go at your own pace" and no yelling.~Mark www.loveyourbodyfitness.com
